Principal Consultant

John Mullen is a senior business executive with over 30 years of experience in mid-size manufacturing operations and North American construction markets. Specializing in financial and operations leadership, he has proven skills in developing and implementing corporate strategic direction, developing strategic partnerships and supporting employee empowerment to achieve business results.

A Certified Management Accountant (CMA) since 1992, John rose from Corporate Controller to Vice President of Finance at Valley City Architectural Furniture and eventually became Vice President, General Manager and Part Owner. As such, he was responsible for Finance, Administrative and Manufacturing operations for a staff of 80 and rotating client base with numerous manufacturing and construction projects on the go at any given time.

Accomplishments:

At Valley City, John developed and implemented a corporate currency hedging program, negotiated annual banking and surety facilities and developed sales objectives and strategy to ensure consistent high gross margins. His review of service providers, employee benefits and corporate bonding facilities led to enhanced service delivery, risk management and packing of products with no cost increases. As leader of Operations, John oversaw a unionized ‘Job Shop’ environment, introducing LEAN Manufacturing concepts to a traditional manufacturing environment. Employee relationships were strengthened to work towards corporate goals, and grievances were reduced from an average of 15 to 1-2 per year.

Community Involvement:

John has been a member of the Rotary Club of Ancaster since 1996 and served as President from 2005-2006. In addition he served as a District Assistant Governor from 2008 - 2011. Currently he is Chair of the District Foundation Permanent Fund Committee.
